RACES
Of the seelie court
These are races that are governed by leaders who try and uphold justice, order and honour as values. They call themselves the 'Blessed Ones' and see themselves superior to the Unseelie.
Centaurs
Centaurs have the body of a horse and the torso of a man or woman. They are regarded as fearsome and imposing warriors, famously wielding bows and double-edged blades with great skill. But they are also known to make great astronomers and astrologers and look to the Heavens for knowledge and predictions. Centaurs, however, are not resistant to the effects of magic and neither are they particularly resistant to alcohol or charming members of the opposite sex for that matter. They live for around 300 years.
Changelings
Changelings are much like Elves in appearance, only smaller and with less of their grace and glow. Changelings have the ability to shape-shift into any one object, be it an animal or an inanimate object from birth. As they grow older, they can shift into multiple objects with training and studying. Changelings make very good scientists and technologists and have been at the forefront in development and technology for the Seelie court for many years. Changelings live for about 300 years.
Dwarves
Dwarves are characteristically short, stout and have no shortage of hair- of which they are proudest of their beards which they keep in good shape and often decorate with braids, beads and other items. Dwarves have been known to be greedy and selfish at times, and their place on the Seelie council has been considered more than once. However their importance to the council is undeniable as it is these folk who make the finest of miners and craftsmen and are unparalleled in their ability to work stone, gems and metal. They live for around 250 years.
Faeries
Faeries are tall, slender beings with wings that vary in shape and size depending on the source of a Faerie's magic. They share a few qualities with Elves and are only slightly shorter, though still slender in stature with pointed ears and a natural affinity to magic. Faeries are born being able to manipulate one element of nature and are unable to specialise in other types of magic even as they grow older. Faeries are often regarded as the more sober and serious of the winged creatures and are quite a traditional race as well, often rejecting technology and changes in their societies.
High Elves
Considered the most noble and fairest of all fey, High Elves belong to the immortal race of the Elves and have very accentuated features including exceedingly long and pointed ears, very pale skin and they are amongst the tallest of fey. They are often looked up to for wisdom and justice and they hold a great deal of power in the Seelie Court. And most importantly, being in this place of power means they can dictate to the majority of Durcarus citizens what is 'right' and what is 'wrong'. High Elves have a natural affinity to High Magic and practice it exclusively, having prohibited other races from learning of it. High Magic is the most powerful form of magic and involves manipulation of spirits and thought. However this form of magic takes a minimum of 1000 years of continual studying to be able to grasp, it is very taxing and can also only be performed during the light hours, making High Elves very vulnerable at night. Like all Elves, High Elves are immortal unless slain.
Nymphs
Nymphs are both men and women who have a very beautiful appearance and spend most of their time in forests, looking after the plants, animals and the occasional wanderer, and thus they are called the guardians of the forest. They are a gentle people and remain very detached from many political and military decisions taken by the Seelie Court. They have a natural affinity to nature and thus find it easier to learn nature magic. They are the same height as humans though have a more ethereal look to them and many of them have coloured skin, hair and eyes that match their surroundings- so they consist of colours such as brown, green, silver, black, etc. Nymphs are immortal unless slain.
Satyrs
Satyrs have the torso of a man or woman and the legs and horns of a goat. They are often considered to be very light-hearted and carefree creatures who have a great love of music and nature. They are very close to the Nymphs and prefer to remain detached from many military decisions made by the Seelie Court- though they do oblige to orders from the higher poser. Satyrs are also considered exceedingly seductive and have a strange allure to them. They are a little taller than Men and have a lifespan of around 90 years.
Sprites
Sprites are small creatures about the size of a human hand and look like miniature elves. They flit around forests and cities alike on long pointed wings, which are often very beautifully decorated with coloured patterns. Much like Elves, they have a strong capacity for magic but need to study it to be able to use it. Sprites often act as guardians over certain beings and whilst they have a mischievous reputation, they are also very protective over their friends and anything that glitters.
Wood Elves
Wood Elves are another race that belong to the Elven species, though appear very different to the High Elves. They are usually the same size as Men, if not a little shorter and their ears are only slightly pointed and more leaf-shaped. They are quite reclusive beings and prefer to stay in the forests, away from other species and keep to themselves. They specialise in archery, agility and hunting and can easily move unseen through the forest. Out of their comfort zone however, many Wood Elves are at a loss and can be very naive and ignorant of the ways of other cultures. Wood Elves are immortal unless slain.
